Insert Bearings (Y-Bearings)

Insert ball bearings, also known as Y-bearings, are sealed bearings pressed between an outer raceway and an extended inner raceway. The extended inner raceway of the insert ball bearing provides added support for the shaft. Unlike many other bearings that are pressed into their assemblies to secure it in place, insert bearings can simply slide over the shaft, making them easier to mount. An insert bearing typically has a locking collar or setscrew to secure the bearing in place on the shaft, locking the extended inner ring to the shaft and providing extra support.

Insert ball bearings are typically used in heavier applications due to their extended collar and locking mechanism. They also can help reduce noise and vibration since their extended inner ring helps maintain axial support. Some applications where insert ball bearings may be used include conveyor and handling systems, processing and packaging, textile, and agriculture. Even though an insert bearing typically has a long lifetime, they are easy to replace due to their mounting mechanism.
